When I was a lot younger I discovered a show called Ruby Gloom.
It was around that time when I first begun making Source Maps, specifically for Half-Life 2 Deathmatch. Yeah back when that was popular.
This era of my life has always been special to me since it was like my age of discovery. All the fun things in life were happening around this era too!
One of which was halloween.
I'm a lover of spooky and all things edgy so you can imagine how much I loved this Holiday, plus free candy, and my school teachers seemed to be extra fun around this time too.
Not to mention, candy...FREE candy. Back when candy tasted so good and you worried less about diabetes and making your teeth rot to kingdom come.
But during this one Halloween, I randomly put on an animation series that intrigued me, it was called Ruby Gloom and I was instantly really into it.
Perhaps into it to a point of obsession, because I would never stop thinking about it.
I would come up with fanfiction, write poems that used the characters or the setting from the show, attempted to recreate Ruby's Mansion in Half Life 2 Deathmatch and even entertained and DREAMED of the idea for making a CoD Zombies map based off the show. I even started a rumor saying that there is a secret Ruby Gloom zombies episode based off fanart I found online and my inspiration of having a crossover between the two medias.
Even to this day I feel like the show is semi-responsible for my love of Gothic aesthetics and why I eventually became one myself. It certainly shaped me in a way and the obsession still kind of remains today.
I'll make an attempt to dig up the old Media that I mentioned.
I showed my friends Ruby Gloom, all of my friends liked to roleplay so id always find a way to incorporate anything Ruby Gloom related into our RP those days. I even joined many forums that talked about Ruby Gloom.
Back then, I'd watch it while I made my Source Maps, I'd watch it no matter what situation I was in.
Of course as things changed, I eventually moved on and obsessed with other shows, Edgar and Ellen was next LOL (I don't even know why)!
Though...
It was only until last month that I started to get interested in where this show came from.
Prior, I was made aware of the context that Ruby Gloom started as a clothing & apparel brand then turned into the show, but that was the extent to what I knew other than it being canceled.
I don't even remember how this happened despite it happening recently, but I heard of Ruby Gloom lost media which got me interested.
So I begun researching, but the efforts of finding anything proved to be slightly useless.
Because afterall, Ruby Gloom is a niche show, so information is limited (at least during my initial search).
As of writing this, I feel like I barely touched the surface.
After some research and exploration of the Ruby Gloom website I thought it would be a great thing to make a video on, especially since I always wanted to make more youtube videos and one of my dream videos was to make a video on a topic regarding Lost Media for a show that's not often talked about.
However, due to the lack of information I found, the video became more of a baseline investigation to provide a start for a future full investigation for lost media content for Ruby Gloom.
The video I made showcases all of the information that I discovered up until the point of discovery, as of writing this the video is doing very well, making it the first youtube video that talks about Ruby Gloom Lost Media in deph.
I'm also going to officially make this into a series. I plan for the next video dive into the forums a bit more and talk about obscure Ruby Gloom merchandise as well as obscure Ruby Gloom medias that are either unknown or semi-unknown.
Despite creating youtube videos since 2012, I don't have much editing experience. It's like I've always remained a beginner up until this point. Even with the most recent Ruby Gloom video that I made thats becoming popular, its full of typing errors and things that I could have done better.
But hey, hind-site is the most clear!
I did learn a ton of new editing/video techniques after posting the investigation video.
Not to mention I joined a Ruby Gloom unofficial discord server which has not only been a great support, but helping me give ideas for the next video!
By the way, I forgot to mention the name of this Ruby Gloom video I keep talking about, it's called "Ruby Gloom: Lost Media & Its Short History."
It can be viewed by clicking on the thumbnail here accompanied by the URL.
I'm very open to suggestions on how to make my content better.
I am also very open to facts or knowledge I might have missed in my video that would prove beneficial for the investigation.
I can be contacted on discord @ c.drive or email: ckatyusha0@tuta.io
One thing I've considered doing which I'll most certainly do in the next video, is compile all of the assets found/assets stored in the old archives on the previous version of the Ruby Gloom website into one big zip folder.
